As a former Crime Scene Investigator, whenever Jim Hock is faced with a challenge, he focuses on the details and gets the job done. While his impressive career in law enforcement led to the position of Executive Officer, Jim’s ability to focus and prioritize started early on.  After receiving his bachelor’s degree in psychology in New York, he knew more knowledge could only give him more opportunities.  While he worked in C.S.I. he continued with school and earned his master’s degree in education.  This thirst for insight led Jim to attain higher qualifications by attending the West Point School of Staff and Command and the Police Institute at Rutgers University. After hearing about the allure of Charleston for so long, Jim and his wife, Ellen, decided to check out the buzz and ventured down to this charming city by the sea. On their first trip together, they bought a home.  Within three months they had sold their house in New Jersey and were settled in their new community.  “It was the best decision we’ve ever made,” says Jim. “There’s no better place for us to live and work than Charleston.” From the exciting downtown atmosphere to the historically quaint appeal, Jim has never looked back and keeps looking forward to what’s next. Whether he’s enjoying the beach, kayaking or playing a game of golf, he always feels at home.

As a court–appointed Guardian ad Litem helping abused children, Jim gives back to the community that has provided so much for him.  He uses his investigative talents to help give children a better life. “Charleston has become such a wonderful home for my family,” says Jim. “I’m just using the skills I have to do my part and help the kids who need it most.”
